what's next? (random thoughts)

The Phone is dying, the scrolling, the tiktok 90 seconds video, the instagram reels, the social media as it is today will be replaced by a more extreme version of what is used today. What will that be? I believe that human beings are too intoxicated with current day technology and the current Gen Z-ers will still want what they have grown with (dopamine hits), but, it will evolve: Voice & Augmented Glasses (with a dash of AI) Weren't we here 10 years ago? Sure! I was even doing things with it too: However, it was niche 10 years ago, a market had not been created, the foundations have now been laid & now it will start to evolve. Digital will be the starter, then it will move to Analog.  What does that mean? Things will start in the digital world, but then the technology will move to one side and the real-world will come into the equation more & more. For instance, people will connect in the digital world, but then move into the analog world - kind of like we used to do b...

ENTiTi Augmented reality and Virtual Reality...with no code....

Image
Really?.... I was playing around with WikiTudes Augmented Reality mid-2015 and I was impressed at what was on offer. Now, this startup has just sprouted and is currently offering their software for "free" - the plan looks like they will charge a monthly subscription eventually, would be interesting to know what the price range is likely to be, we'll have to wait and see. Anyway.... WakingApp.com have this Augmented reality creator tooling that they reckon, even Sales & Marketing can use, with no need to write any code......  :-D Well, you know me.....I have "hotel evenings" and they have a " free download ", what's to lose? apart from some time.  It might be a good investment, let's find out! Project Tango

Google....good old Google have decided that the phone is not enough being just a phone.  It needs to evolve. Let me introduce you to PROJECT TANGO : " Project Tango brings Motion Tracking, Depth Perception, and Area Learning to mobile devices. Thousands of developers are building experiences that do things like finding your way around, measuring your world, and walking through stories. Show everyone what you can do with Project Tango by getting a Tablet Development Kit, creating an application, and uploading it to the Play Store. We believe this journey is one worth following." Well, I "was" building myself an Arduino based robot this week that could basically do all these things shown in the nice diagram above.... I'm now wondering if I should bother?  or should I just get myself a DEV KIT and use all the cool new tools/toys from Google instead? Nah, I think I'll continue building the robot side of things myself....and wait for...

Leap Motion’s Augmented-Reality Computing Looks Stupid Cool

The more I see Augmented Reality blurring with Virtual Reality and "new" ways of thinking, the more I am liking where things are going for 2016. I backed the KickStarter project for Oculus Rift a couple of years back, when I got my headset and access to the code I was excited by the possibilities.  Unfortunately, it was just too new and I didn't have the time to dedicate to writing 1000's of lines of code for libraries.  I had the vision, but not the time. I see now that a lot of those libraries have now been written, so what I had in mind can now be achieved in a couple of days of hacking code together. I'm impressed. Augmented Reality on Android Phone using Wikitude SDK

Image
I thought I would do a write-up and share how to use the Wikitude SDK for Android to allow you to see how awesome Augmented Reality is from your phone. Here's a little YouTube video showing the outcome of the slides presentation above: any questions, feel free to ask.
