The king is dead, long live the king.....

Okay, no monarchs have died and I'm not a king nor do I work for one
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_king_is_dead,_long_live_the_king!

but, I've officially moved around within IBM...again.  Well, IBM is big enough to have such a vast array of interesting things going on that you really don't need to leave it and work for other companies to get access to more interesting technologies.

So what am I doing?  Well....the same as I have been for the past 5-6 years!  But this time, I'm not the geeky specialist kept in a basement (or customers basement) working on things that I cannot tell you about.

I'm now being brought out into the light, working for GBS (shock!horror! as far back as anyone can remember, no Lab Services employee has EVER moved from Lab Services to GBS before, ever...I like a challenge!).  Therefore, I'm going to have to get more exposure to the outside world and the outside world is going to get more exposure to me.

Most people know I can talk the hind legs off a donkey, if it's a subject I'm passionate about and interested in (okay, that covers mainly cars and Cognitive technology - no surprises there), so I'm going to have to lift the veil, bite the bullet, grab the opportunity with both hands, <insert lots of that type of thing here> and get my haircut a bit more, so I can become a bit more of an advocate for all things IBM and Cognitive.  Note, I didn't say AI.... (insert big long debate about AI / ML / DL, etc.. here).

Naturally, I'll still be me.  I'll still be wearing mostly/only black jeans, black sketchers and black T-shirt - that's my "thing" and it means I can wear the same thing every day, therefore making my chances of getting away with Time Travel in the future so much more likely :-)  (that's a wacky discussion for another day)

So, needless to say, LinkedIn.com has been updated and I've started the ball rolling to get more involved in a lot more initiatives within IBM.

Here's a YouTube video of my new boss, James Luke, IBM Distinguished Engineer :

Time for me to start climbing the AI career ladder ;-) (?possibly?)

UPDATE: March 2021 - James Luke decided to leave IBM over the xmas 2020 period to pursue and alternative career.  I would like to say, his leaving had nothing to do with me!  I didn't drive him nuts, in fact, I was given a quote by my "new" boss that I was referred to as "He doesn't give a shit, he's the easiest person to manage, he just gets on and does what he wants to do and actually does it well".

My "new" boss, is also an IBM D.E. (Distinguished Engineer), his name is Richard Hopkins - it's still early days, we've had 1 15 minute meeting and tbh, I'm not feeling it, maybe it will grow over time, but I don't think we'll get on.  I don't think I went to the right school 35+years ago...
